Tribute to David Seal, 1956 - 2021
Back when we were at Acorn and later Arm there was a group of friends who used to go up to the Yorkshire Dales together and stay at a place called Fawber which was owned by a local scout leader. We shopped for food beforehand and brought one or more barrels of real ale. Fawber was pretty rustic, so much so that it didn't have a proper toilet, just a wooden seat over a bucket. The group of 10-20 friends would go off in the daytime to do all sorts of activities: Hill walking, caving, mountain biking, climbing or visiting the local attractions like the Wensleydale cheese factory (not even Wensleydale Grommit?). David didn't do any of that, he remained at the house all day drinking beer. And he could really put it away, his legs were long so I'm guessing that's where it went. The group shared tasks like cooking and washing up afterwards. David didn't do any of that either. But no one minded because there was one job that no one wanted to do: emptying the poo bucket. David always willingly volunteered for that job, in fact it was considered his job. Nobody minded how much beer he got through as they were all extremely relieved not to have to touch that bucket.
